June/July/August Report

Dear Friends,

A lot has been going on here on Oahu.  I want to first of all thank you for your prayers for the ministry as well as for our family.  I have been battling eye problems for over a year now, mainly with iritis but in the last few months I also developed double vision.  The doctors have not figured out the cause for the iritis yet even though I have had a number of tests.  The double vision was likely caused by a combination of higher than normal blood sugar and the steroids the doctor had been putting in my eye for a number of weeks.  Thank the Lord that the double vision is beginning to clear up and I have not had a serious case of iritis either.  This helps because I do a lot of teaching and need my eyes to read my notes.   Thank you for your continued prayers for me.

We have had some visitors this month, one couple from Oregon who were on their way back out to Korea to administrate a school there, and John Lamb who is on his way to Thailand.  John is taking a break from teaching in Palau at Bethania for at least a year.  It was nice to fellowship with these folks.  John got to see a lot of Palauans at our Bible study ads a number are attending at this time.

I am wrapping up my “Discernment Toolkit” study and have been going through some of the “12 Biggest Lies” DVD series.  It has been a help especially for the young people who attend our studies as they attend public schools and have to deal with a number of the issues raised in that series.  In August Juanita will pick up teaching a series and after that I will likely start back over the series I did on the Epistles since it has been many years since I taught it and no one is left in our studies who was there.  Our Bible studies have grown and it is typical to have 25-35 people twice a week. Pray for God's mercy on me as I travel each week to pick up many people in the large van.

I have also been speaking in a local church.  I spoke twice in June but then the pastor asked me to come back for a third time and address the topic of “good English Bible translations” since he knew I had written an article about good resources for pastors in 2006 in my Pacific Waves Newsletter.  I have since put those messages on DVD.  In August he has asked me to teach on the Core Doctrines in a 4-part series on Wednesday nights.  So I am looking forward to that opportunity.

Rose’s brother Roger was able to buy her tickets to come see him in North Carolina so she is still there at the time of this writing.  She will come back just in time to start school again in mid-July.  Pray for her brother as he continues to deal with injuries he has sustained over many years working construction in Alaska.  She is having a good time there with her brother, his wife and a number of other relatives.  Juanita will also be taking a trip in the middle of July to see my sister, Steve, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She will meet them in CA and then also travel with them to NC where Jessica and Kiristin and family will have a get together.

Carissa and Ocean are doing well.  When I have time I try to walk with them.  Ocean is growing up fast and has a very agreeable personality.  Her laugh is hilarious.

Josiah is working at Rose’s school this summer almost full time.  He also took care of a pastor’s house and dog while they were on vacation for a month.  He is still living with us.

Cassie is pregnant.  Rose was able to see her for a short time at the airport in San Francisco.  Please continue to pray for her.

I want to thank you again for your support in prayer and otherwise.  It is a great blessing to us.  The Lord is going a good work here and I am very thankful to be a part of it.

In His hands,
Sandy Simpson & family
